A Delhi court has restrained the media from broadcasting, publishing and transmitting the controversial interview of one of the convicts in the December 16, 2012 Delhi gang-rape case till further orders. The order by Metropolitan Magistrate Puneet Pahwa at Patiala House came on a Delhi Police plea seeking restraint order in this regard.
Delhi Police has also lodged an FIR in connection with the interview. The FIR, which mentions no name, was registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code and the IT Act. Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said the FIR has been registered on the basis of media reports and action will be taken against those found guilty in the matter.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry has also advised all news channels not to carry news item related to the interview. Official sources said, an advisory has been sent to all news channels in this regard. A British filmmaker's interview of one of the December 16 gang-rape convicts for a documentary, in which he reportedly showed no remorse, kicked up a storm yesterday.
The government has taken a serious view of the matter and sought an explanation from Tihar jail authorities. Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tihar jail Director General Alok Kumar Verma and sought a detailed report urgently on how the convict was interviewed in the custody.
On the other hand, filmmaker Leslee Udwin said, the documentary film is her attempt to examine the attitude of men towards women and that there is nothing sensational in it. Ms. Udwin also claimed she took permission from the then Director General of Tijar jail before interviewing Mukesh in the prison for BBC
