President to arrive in Hyd for 14-day southern sojourn


Hyderabad Dec 17: President, Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad on Friday for his 14-day Southern sojourn and will stay at the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Secunderabad from Dec 18 to 31. During his stint the President will attend the MCEME convocation in Secunderabad on December 19. Pranab Mukherjee will attend 2nd convocation of Central University of Karnataka in Gulbarga and inaugurate the Magneto Encephalography Equipment and renovated heritage building of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) and dedicate it to the nation in Bangalore on 22. The President will attend the 150th Anniversary of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and lay the foundation stone of the State Cancer Institute at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore on December 23. The President will inaugurate the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s Veda-Pathasala at Ai Bhimavaram in West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh on Dec 25. Pranab will deliver the inaugural address at the Indian Economic Association’s Annual Conference at Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad on 27. He will also attend on the same day the Purnahuthi of Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagam being organized by the Telangana State Government at Erravelli village in Medak, Telangana for ‘Lok Kalyanam’ (universal prosperity) and ‘Vishwa Shanthi’ (universal peace). Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will host a dinner in honour of the President at Raj Bhavan on December 29. And the President will host a reception for senior dignitaries of the State, Ministers, officials, journalists etc. at the Rashtrapati Nalayam, Secunderabad on December 30

Sahitha Akademy Award for Volga

Hyderabad Dec 17: Noted woman writer Popuri Lalitha Kumar alias Volga has been chosen for the prestigious Kendra Sahithya Academy award for 2015. The literary award was announced by the Kendra Sahithya Academy for her work of “Vimukhta” – a compilation of stories. With a sort of left orientation she wrote on women issues and problems and civil rights. Born in Guntur on Nov 27, 1950, she pursued MA in Andhra University and worked as a Lecturer in a Tenali College. She also offered services in media and Telugu film industry.

ISRO launches PSLV C-29


Hyderabad Dec 16 (): ISRO on Wednesday successfully launched PSLV C-29 satellite along with six Singapore satellites. The launch was carried from Sriharikota in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. On its victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to the team of scientists. He also exuded confidence that the ISRO will set new records in the domain. Chief Minister K Chandrasekha Rao also expressed pleasure at the success of satellite launch. Of 50 launches, Sriharikota center so far launched 84 satellites including 51foreign satellites.

'Call Money' may hot up winter session


Hyderabad Dec 16: The Winter session of Andhra Pradesh Assembly beginning Thursday will see ruckus and pandemonium as the Opposition YCP is all set to corner the treasury benches on alleged Call Money sex scandal and other issues. While the state government is preparing to give suitable reply on various issues, leader of the opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy is to put in fix the former on call money, bauxite mining, capital lands, price rise and other issues. It may also rake up cash for vote case that rattled the state government. Jagan Reddy reportedly asked his party legislators to raise call money, bauxite mining and other issues to stall the proceedings. With this the YCP members are getting ready to raise these issues during question hour of the session followed by BAC that decides the schedule of the house.

KCR, KTR get EC notices for code violation


 Election Commission here on Thursday issued notices to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and IT Minister, KT Rama Rao for violating election code of conduct and directed to give explanation in 48 hours. The EC said that the Chief Minister made promises of development to Khammam leaders while KTR offering the TRS shawls to some leaders in Secretariat. Since this is violation of the code they must give explanation the EC said.

Prez will attend Chandi Yagam on Dec 27


 President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee will visit Hyderabad on Dec 18 and stay here till 31 according to Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma. He held a review meeting at Secretariat on arrangements for the President Winter trip to Southern state of Telangana. During his stay at Rashtrapathi Nilayam here Pranab will visit “Ayutha Maha Chandi Yagam” being conducted by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s at Erravalli farm house in Medak district from Dec 27 and also attend Indian Economic Association anniversary program at Prof Jayashankar University. Earlier on Dec 19, the President will attend a Convocation of Military College of Engineering. The CS sought the officials to make arrangements of security, traffic control and curbs and prepare the Rashtrapathi Nilayam with CC cameras, computers, telephone facility, printers, water, power, clean premises and other facilities and also at Hakimpet area.

KCR directs steps on Redgram sale


Hyderabad, Dec 8 (): Annoyed at the reports of shortage  of quota in 129 stalls set up for selling Redgram at subsidy rate,Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday directed the officials to immediate steps. The people should get the essential commodity at just Rs 135 per kilo and there should be no further complaints, CM said. In Open market Redgram is being sold at Rs 200 per kilo and to avoid the anger of the public the government set up stalls.
