Former Union Minister and mega star K. Chiranjeevi’s actor turned son Ram Charan is now entering into aviation business with a company called Turbo Megha Airways Private Limited which will kick start commercially from April 2015.
The company is said to be a subsidiary of Turbo Aviation that has been into aircraft maintenance and ground-handling services since 2003. The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued No-Objection Certificate for Turbo Megha Airways along with two other companies on July 22 2014 and Turbo Aviation had confirmed Ram Charan was a ‘small part-investor’ in the business.
In the first phase, Turbo Megha Airlines is mainly focusing on the two Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. A 9-seater Jets targeting the super-rich and 72-seater ATR Aircraft's targeting Economy Passengers & Pilgrims will be run to major cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Rajahmundry from first week of April.
Turbo Megha Airways MD Vankayalapati Umesh says 9-seater Jets will be used for non-scheduled operations from Vijayawada which is the new capital of AP. “We have plans scheduled between seven cities across India." he says. With Hyderabad as its base, Turbo Megha Airways plans to connect Chennai, Bangalore, Tuticorin, Madurai, Belgaum and Hubli. It is planning to acquire a 68-seater, Q-400 Bombardier aircraft for the purpose.
