The first full-fledged Rail Budget of the Narendra Modi government will be presented in Parliament today by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. The Minister is also likely to present a White Paper in Parliament on finances and projects of the railways. This year’s rail budget involved people's participation. In January this year, the Indian Railways had invited suggestions from the public for forthcoming Railway Budget.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasized on modernization of railways and how important the national transporter is for the country. Mr Modi has said that the budget is expected to lay out a clear road map for modernizing the railways in terms of passenger amenities like improving sanitation, installing CCTVs in coaches, WiFi accessibility and e-catering.
