Kailash, Malala received Noble Peace Prize

India's Kailash Satyarthi received the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014, sharing it with Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai, the youngest ever Nobel laureate, for their pioneering work on promoting child rights in the sub-continent. They received the Prize at a ceremony in Norwegian Capital Oslo. In his speech before awarding them the prize, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Thorbjorn Jagland said Satyarthi and Yousafzai are precisely the people whom Alfred Nobel in his will calls champions of peace.

In his acceptance speech after receiving the prestigious award to a standing ovation, Mr Satyarthi said he represents the sounds of silence and the voices of innocence. He said today is the time for every child to have the right to life, freedom, dignity and peace. Malala thanked her parents after accepting the award saying her father did not clip her wings and let her fly. She hailed her mother for inspiring her to be patient and to always speak the truth, which they strongly believe is the true message of Islam.

Kailash Satyarthi's NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan prides itself on liberating over eighty thousand children from bonded labour in factories and workshops across India. 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai survived a near-fatal Taliban attack two years ago with determination advocating education for girls. Both were named by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for the prestigious award on 10th October this year.
