The Jeedimetla police arrested five persons for extorting Rs 2.5 lakh from a businessman in Shapurnagar, while claiming to be local TRS leaders on Monday. All the five were sent to remand on Tuesday.According to police, the accused Y Pawan Goud, 35, Gade Vinod, 45, Md Rafeeq, 34, Sammaiah, 42 and Md Hafeez, 28 went to the Kirana Shop being run by Parashuram Agarwal in Shapurnagar of Qutbullapur. 'After entering the shop, they alleged that some of the items like wheat flour was outdated and blackmailed the shop owner', said A Chandrashekhar, Inspector, Jeedimetla.
Originally they had demanded Rs 10 lakh from the shop owner, but agreed over Rs 2.5 lakh. Immediately after handing over the money the victim filed a complaint with the police on Sunday. The police arrested all the five on Monday and also recovered money from the accused. A case was registered under section 384 (Extortion) of IPC and all the five were sent for remand.
