The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development and Drinking Water and Sanitation Shri Nitin Gadkari is visiting Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow for an on the spot review of relief and rehabilitation operations concerning rural roads and drinking water in the flood ravaged areas in the state. After arrival at Srinagar airport in the morning, Shri Gadkari will undertake aerial survey of severely affected areas in the state. Later he will hold a review meeting to assess the damage caused to the roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and the plans to rebuild the damaged road network.
The review meeting will be attended, among others, by senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Border Roads Organization, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and officials from the state government. Shri Gadkari will also review the drinking water supply with the concerned officials.Before returning to Delhi, Shri Gadkari will hold discussions with the state chief minister Shri Omar Abdullah. He will also call on the governor Shri N. N. Vohra.
The centre has so far supplied more than 4lakh 25 thousand litres of drinking water for the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.
