To come out from the power shortage in Telangana and to provide 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to all including agricultural operations by making use of all available resources, chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed officials to initiate measures on a war-footing to generate 20,000 MW power in the next three years.
He ordered the officials to lay 200 mw transmission lines from Chhattisgarh so that to purchase 2,000 MW power from that state every year.
Presently, the state is facing a huge gap of about 3,000 MW between the demand and supply of power in the state. While the demand for power in the State is to the tune of 7,000 MW, only 4,000 MW of power is available, resulting in long power cuts both in urban and rural areas.
In view of this, KCR asked the officials to focus on generating more of hydel power. Stating that there was big scope to tap 5,000 MW of hydel power, KCR asked the officials to conduct a survey on Krishna, Godavari, Pranahita, Penganga, Manjira and other rivers. Gurramgadda on the river Krishna, Kadam, Icchampally and L Madugu dams on Godavari river could be the places suitable for hydel power generation, he added.
The total flow of water from these sources is 11 lakh cusecs which offers great potential for power generation. In addition the capacity of hydel power from Jurala project could also be increased, KCR felt. Telangana Genco was asked to explore the possibility of generating 6,000 MW of power immediately either at Manuguru or Illendu areas in Khammam district. Genco chairman Prabhakar Rao, SPDCL CMD SAM Rizvi, CM peshi officials among others took part in the meeting.
Chief Minister alerted officials to constantly hold talks with the Union government to obtain 4,000 MW power from NTPC as promised to the state under the AP Reorganization Act 2014. Further, 1500 MW power available from Vardha-Dichpalli line connecting Northern and Southern Power grids should be obtained.
