After promising Muslims and Scheduled Tribes to provide them each12 per cent reservation in education and jobs, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao now promising Christians to provide them 3 per cent reservation. Besides, he also promised them a MLC seat that will be vacated in March, 2015.
Chandrasekhar Rao said his government was sincere in its promise to provide proper representation for the community in law making bodies. When Christian leaders representing various organisations led my MLC from Nizamabad Rajeshwar Rao met him, Rao said the post will serve as an opportunity for Christians to put forward their views and problems in law making bodies.“The move is purely to ensure Christian representation in law making bodies and has no political motive attached to it,” KCR said and added that the person suggested by the leaders of the community will be elected to the post.The chief minister said his government was positively inclined to provide three per cent reservation to Christians like it had promised 12 per cent for Muslims. A committee, headed by a High Court judge, will look into various aspects of both the issues.
Stating that based on the report of the commission they will take a decision, Rao also assured if necessary they will increase various reservations in the state seeking special exemptions as has been done in Tamil Nadu.“All we want to see is that opportunities are provided to everyone based on population ratio,” he added. The chief minister said that Telangana will emerge as a sterling example for Secular State. “We will set an example for other states with regard to functioning in secular spirit,” KCR said.
